Muslims making a positive difference to Policing

Welcome to NAMP

The National Association of Muslim Police (NAMP) was founded in 2007. A group of Muslim officers identified a huge gap of faith within policing. They held several key meetings with the Police minister and Chief’s councils to make a strong case for establishing a national association. This was eventually met with approval, resulting in several associations being established throughout the UK.

These local AMPs soon came together to formulate a national association known as NAMP. This helped create a stronger link between Muslim officers and staff nationwide and continues to help with the growth and development of its members.

NAMP actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion and leads on several initiatives to facilitate better workplace environments for Muslims. NAMP also delivers various training packages relating to Islamic awareness and addresses issues connected to Islamophobia within the Police service.

Membership of NAMP is open to all UK Police officers, Police staff, Police Specials and volunteers. NAMP also works closely with key community contacts, Muslim community organisations, the Muslim media and Mosque Councils.

Aims

  • Improving recruitment, retention and progression of Muslim Officers/Staff
  • Addressing disproportionality within misconduct/grievance procedures
  • Promote learning and development of its members
  • To support the religious and welfare needs of Muslim colleagues
  • To promote understanding and awareness of Islam within the police service and the wider community

  • To influence the direction of national policies in the Police Service
  • Promoting community cohesion and enhancing the safety of our communities.
  • Create a network / group of key individuals.
